“Show me the body and I will tell you the pains the muscles have gone through.”
This thought flashed through my mind recently and I thought of extracting some
lessons out of it. The life we are living can be compared to a whole lot of
things; an egg, air, smoke, grass, car and all the other things you can think
of. What matters most is that you are able to associate and make a good comparison
with any object.
For today, I
want to make the comparison of life to the human body. After spending some few
minutes thinking about “no pain, no gain”, I realized that the human body stood
a great chance of being compared to life too. Life, in this context, refers to
the general activities one carries out daily. Are you the type who wants to
have a beautiful life? The kind of life where you are able to cater for the
needs far beyond the basics, be happy and feel you have fulfilled the purpose
of your life? Then, let us take this adventure together to figure out our way
through this comparison.
Have you
ever seen and adored someone’s body structure before? On the other hand, have
you seen someone and wished you had the same life as the person? In my own
opinion, it is nothing bad to adore the life of other people. In fact, this can
even add up to boost your interest in making it in life (except you become
jealous and do something bad). Apart from the situation where you decide to do
nothing, you can always work out to build a nice and appreciative body…stay
with me and let us make this comparison.
1. Decision; I grew up to the age where I became conscious of my body stature. I wondered how I would become in the future after I saw one well-built gentleman in a black suit at church. I adored what he had done with his body (keeping it in a good shape, I mean). I realized that if I do nothing, I would end up in a stature I would not like. Therefore, I made a decision to work out a little so I can also have a nice body stature. In reference to life, it could be you saw someone and you admired the life the person was living, now is the time to bring yourself up to make the decision to have your own life too. However, mind you, it is very easy making decisions than carrying them out. Every decision you make today has its consequences (positive or negative) in the future and it is with decisions that you create your future. In trying to build your life, it does not end here with just decision-making but after deciding means you have started this wonderful journey.
2. Plan; Life went on after I had decided to have a good stature. I was young and knew nothing like the gym center so guess what I did? I ran a little search at home to find the few things that could help my vision. I realized I could roll down from my bed to the ground and do some push-ups each morning when I wake up from sleep, jog in our yard, and others. All set, I made the guy whom I adored his physique my mentor (he was not aware though). Now back to life, the future is not always known but this should not impede you from planning. Plans are very good guidelines to achieve what you want. Trust me, there is extra joy when you are able to fulfill your plans (ask the computer scientist about programming). There is an adage that says, “He who fails to plan rather plans to fail” so get your paper now and write some plans down. It could be what you would want to achieve in the next two hours or two years.
3. Carry-out; Each morning, before I hit the shower, I did some few push-ups, jog, squat for a while and that was it for the day. Little by little I continued, having a mental picture of my mentor and myself in the future. With each day, I would go a little further in the workout despite the pains I went through each time. In life, there are lots of impedances (pains) but be focused and keep in mind that it would be worthwhile in the future. In carrying-out your plans, it might be going to school (formal or informal), being punctual to work, attending that seminar or others. Just be consistent and determined in whatever you are doing (even in reading this article, persist to read to the end…lol). Think of the pains body-builders go through in their gymnastic activities.
4. Relaxation and Motivation; It got to a time I felt so tired of having to repeat the same activities each day but was afraid taking some break would make all my efforts be in vain. I wanted to continue but the body resisted to the point I finally took that break. After relaxing for about two days, I needed to return to my routine but the break was kind of fun. It was then that I began to motivate myself with what I had decided. At a point in time, it might be required to work for a long time and have short breaks. Life is not all about working…working…working. Give yourself a break! Take some time out and relax because the body can break down. Motivations are like the fuel that keeps you going when you feel like giving up. Listen, watch and read motivational materials and get yourself going. Finally, do not forget your creator, God.
Great points.
